Mr. Lewis

asked the Attorney-General the number of staff in his Department who have not had a salary increase since 1946; the average percentage increase in the salaries of those who were, in 1946, on £1,000 per annum; and how many of his staff have to meet the cost of postage, telephones, secretarial assistance and living away from home expenses incurred whilst performing their State duties from their respective salaries.

One member of the Department, who entered the Civil Service after 1st January, 1952, has not received any increase of salary; no present member of the Department was receiving a salary of £1,000 per annum in 1946; the expenses referred to in the third part of the Question are not met out of salaries.
