asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, for 12 months to the latest convenient date, the number of crimes of violence against the person, per 100,000 of population, in Kenya and Uganda, respectively.

Mr. Lyttelton

, pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 12th November, 1952; Vol. 507, c. 51], supplied the following information: For the 12 months ended 30th September, 1952, the figures are 33.98 for Kenya and 27.2 for Uganda. The crimes included are murder, manslaughter, attempted murder, rape, indecent assault and aggravated assault amounting to felony in both cases.
