HC Deb 03 February 1953 vol 510 c189W
72. Mr. G. Jeger

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware that the desires of parish councils to organise appropriate Coronation celebrations are hampered by the poundage limit of their precepts; and whether he will authorise an adequate additional expenditure for the purpose of local festivities.

Mr. Marples

My right hon. Friend is aware that some parish councils are already incurring expenditure on their statutory duties up to the prescribed limits. It would not be practicable to act as suggested in the second part of the question.
