HC Deb 18 December 1953 vol 522 c144W
Mr. Gough

asked the Minister of Works what steps he is taking to ensure that the clocks in the Chamber of the House of Commons are at all times synchronised.

Sir D. Eccles

Both clocks are "slaves" to a master clock. They are worked by an electric impulse received every half minute, and as they are on the same circuit, each is bound to receive the same impulse. They cannot be altered separately from outside the Chamber. All clocks are checked daily. No discrepancy has ever been detected in the time shown by these clocks; they have not been altered recently.
