HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 c109W
117. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the fact that Member Governments by the United Nations have been asked by the General Assembly to comment on the proposal of the former Secretary-General that a United Nations Volunteer Reserve should be formed, he will give an assurance that this proposal will be considered by Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Nutting

Member Governments have not, in fact, been asked by the General Assembly to comment on this proposal, and the present Secretary-General has indicated that he does not wish to pursue the proposal for the time being. But Her Majesty's Government would of course be ready to consider the matter if it should be raised in the United Nations Collective Measures Committee.
