HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 cc92-3W
88. Mr. Osborne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what consultations he had with the Bank of England before the advice was given to the insurance companies not to make loans for speculative purposes concerning large scale property deals.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by my right hon. Friend on 15th December to the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Leeds, South (Mr. Gaitskell). The Governor of the Bank of England kept my right hon. Friend fully informed of the action which he was taking with the banks and other financial institutions.
