HC Deb 16 December 1953 vol 522 cc55-6W
70. Mr. Callaghan

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will allocate further ships of the Royal Navy to the repair yards at Cardiff, in view of the anxiety about growing unemployment.

Mr. J. P. L. Thomas

The Admiralty will continue to give full consideration to the needs of Cardiff, and of other ship repair centres, when allocating contracts for repair work on Her Majesty's ships, but I am unable to offer any hope of an increase in the future volume of such work.
