HC Deb 16 December 1953 vol 522 cc71-2W
126. Mr. McKibbin

asked the Minister of Food to what extent the Hardship Committee set up under the chairmanship of the regional food officer in Belfast to consider the claims of members of his staff for preferential retention in Northern Ireland has taken into account the position of members who are ex-Service men or widows of ex-Service men.

Major Lloyd George

A principal criterion has necessarily been the domestic circumstances of the staff. Ex-Service men, and widows of ex-Service men, who are living at home with dependants have all qualified for priority. The Hardship Committee also considered claims for preference on compassionate or hardship grounds arising from war service.
