93 and 94. Air Commodore Harveyasked the President of the Board of Trade (1) what progress has been made with the Brazilian Government concerning the expansion of trade with this country;
(2) when he expects to receive the first payment on the outstanding debts from Brazil to exporters in this country.
Mr. AmoryA Brazilian delegation is at present in London to discuss arrangements for carrying out the agreement already reached between the two Governments on the payment of commercial debts; and, as soon as arrangements are agreed, I would expect payments to be started within a few weeks.
As regards trade with Brazil, I trust, as my right hon. Friend said on 8th December in answer to my hon. Friend 41W the Member for Walton, (Mr. K. Thompson) that the effect of the debt settlement will be a gradual improvement of this trade from its present regrettably low level.
