HC Deb 14 December 1953 vol 522 cc5-6W
59. Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance to state to the latest convenient date, the total number of persons in Wales who are in receipt of retirement pensions; and how many of these pensioners are also in receipt of supplements from the National Assistance Board.

Mr. Peake

At the end of September, 1953, there were about 224,000 retirement pensioners in Wales, of whom 65,000 were receiving regular weekly grants of National Assistance. Some of the grants covered the needs of a household containing more than one pensioner.
