asked the Minister of Labour how many persons were registered as unemployed in the county of Yorkshire on the last date for which figures are available; how many of these are women; how many are over the age of 50 years; and what are the comparable figures at the same date last year.

14,936 males and 8,638 females were registered as unemployed in the county of Yorkshire at16th November, 1953, compared with 17,732 males and 13,461 females at 10th November, 1952. An age-analysis is available only for the wholly unemployed and only for June and December of each year. At 15th June, 1953, the numbers aged 50 and over registered as wholly unemployed in Yorkshire were 5,390 males and 1,594 females, compared with 4,882 males and 2,277 females at 16th June, 1952.
