HC Deb 09 December 1953 vol 521 c235W
58. Mr. Erroll

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the purposes of the work of the British Council in British Colonial and Commonwealth Territories.

Mr. Lyttelton

The purposes of British Council work in the territories with which I am concerned are to promote understanding between the British and oversea peoples; to help forward social and educational progress by passing on our own experience and traditions; and to improve relations among all races.
