HC Deb 08 December 1953 vol 521 cc227-8W
Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what representations he has received regarding the proposals of the British Electricity Authority to erect a power station at the Leys, Glamorgan; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

My hon. Friends the Members for Cardiff. North (Mr. Llewellyn) and Barry (Mr. Gower) have each forwarded representations about this proposal. These and any other representations made will be fully considered if the British Electricity Authority apply for my consent to build a station on this site.

Mr. Llewellyn

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that the industrialisation of the Leys, Glamorgan, will destroy the amenities of the Miners' Rest Camp; and what representations have been made to him in this connection by the National Union of Mineworkers.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

The British Electricity Authority are investigating a proposal to build a power station in this neighbourhood, but they have not yet applied for my sanction to build it. If they do, all reresentations will be given their full weight before I give my decision. I have not as yet received any representation from the National Union of Mineworkers.
