HC Deb 08 December 1953 vol 521 c198W
Mr. Swingler

asked the President of the Board of Trade the value of orders for goods for which British manufacturers are at present seeking licences for export to Eastern countries.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The hon. Member does not say which particular countries he has in mind, but it would in any case not be possible to extract the value of applications for export licences outstanding at any given date without a great deal of research, which would not be justified. Moreover, the number of applications is not an accurate indication of orders placed.
