HC Deb 07 December 1953 vol 521 cc189-90W
Mr. Llewellyn

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the anxiety felt by the tourist industry in South Wales at the threat to build a power station at the Leys; and whether he will at once consult with the Minister of Fuel and Power.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

I have heard of this proposal, but I understand that no application has yet been made for permission to build a power station at the Leys. If it were, the interests of the tourist industry will be taken into account in reaching a decision.

Mr. Llewellyn

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware of the plans of the British Electricity Authority to build a power station at the Leys; whether he will consider the strategic consequences of providing a landmark for enemy bombers; and whether he will consult with the Minister of Fuel and Power.

Mr. Ward

If the British Electricity Authority puts forward a definite proposal to build this power station, the normal procedure for considering matters of this kind will ensure that full weight is given to any views the Air Ministry may have.
