HC Deb 03 December 1953 vol 521 cc164-5W
94. Mr. H. A. Price

asked the Minister of Health what action he proposes to take regarding the recommendations of the report of the United Kingdom Mission which studied the fluoridation of domestic water supplies in North America as a means of controlling dental caries.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The Government has decided to accept the recommendations of the Mission. In conjunction with the Minister of Housing and Local Government who is responsible for public water supplies in England and Wales, the Secretary of State for Scotland and I propose to arrange for studies to be made in some selected communities of the various aspects of the fluoridation of water supplies before considering whether fluoridation should be generally adopted in this country. An approach will be made to certain local authorities to invite their co-operation in making these studies.
