87. Mr. P. Morris

asked the Minister of Health how far he is satisfied with the rate of recruitment to the medical and dental professions; and how far he anticipates that the needs of local government social services will be adequately met from such sources during the next three years.

Recruitment in the medical and dental professions is through entry into university medical and dental schools—which are outside my right hon. Friend's control. He has no grounds for thinking that the number of doctors qualifying will be insufficient to provide for recruitment to local government or other services but fears that the shortage of dentists will not be overcome in the period mentioned.
