HC Deb 03 December 1953 vol 521 c149W
Mr. Gooch

asked the Minister of Agriculture the present stage of restoration of the damaged sea defences along the Norfolk coast.

Sir T. Dugdale

The work of bringing back to their pre-flood strength the damaged sea defences both in Norfolk and elsewhere along the East Coast, was virtually completed some weeks ago, and I expect that finishing touches will be given to the work by the end of this month. Substantial progress has also been made with improvement works designed to give a higher margin of safety at the more important points. A recent illustrated article in the Press gives a wrong impression and the Norfolk defences are now as strong as, and in many cases stronger than they were before last winter's floods.
