§ 67. Mr. Mitchisonasked the Minister of Labour how many persons are drawing unemployment benefit in the area of his Corby, Northamptonshire, office, and in what trades; what are the corresponding figures at intervals of six months or nearest convenient date since November, 1951; and what steps he proposes to take to secure full employment in the area either immediately or in connection with plans for the development of the new town at Corby.
§ Sir W. MoncktonA table of figures is given below. The figures for November show 39 wholly unemployed and 83 temporarily stopped, a total of 122 representing an unemployment percentage of 0.5. As regards the last part of the Question, I understand from my right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government that, in the new town, employment for men will mainly be provided by the iron and steel industry, and for women in new factories for light industries, two of which are due to open in the early part of next year.
