§ 1. Sir W. Wakefieldasked the Secretary of State for War why it is estimated for 1953–54 that an increase of 37 civilian specialists, temporary, various, will be necessary for the Forces Broadcasting Service abroad at an increased cost of £23,940.
§ Mr. HeadA direct comparison of the numbers and cost of these specialists in the two years is misleading, since some 10 of the extra staff in 1953–54 were shown under a different heading in the printed Estimates 1952–53. The actual increase is 15 and the reason for it is to release soldiers for normal duty by the employment of civilians.
