HC Deb 30 April 1953 vol 514 cc112-3W
27. Sir H. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department for how many weeks the junction of North Street and Wandsworth Road, Battersea, has been controlled by a policeman instead of by traffic lights; and what is the estimated cost to public funds of this situation resulting from the road repairs now taking place.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The road works, which included replacing the automatic traffic lights, have made it necessary for police officers to control traffic at this junction since 2nd February. The road works should be completed within the next 10 days. There will be no additional charge on public funds because the officers concerned would be on duty in any event.
