asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view, of the evidence set out in the memorandum sent to him by the National Union of Manufacturers, as a result of the independent inquiry by "The Economist" intelligence unit on the effects of Death Duties on the family business, he will now arrange for a public inquiry to be made on this subject.

My right hon. Friend does not think a public inquiry would assist his consideration of this subject, which has been fully covered in the evidence referred to by my hon. Friend and in other representations which he has received.
