asked the Minister of Food why the price of wholemeal bread has been increased by about 40 per cent. in some cases since the beginning of April.

The price of the subsidised loaf, whether made of wholemeal or 80 per cent. extraction flour, has not changed. Removal of the flour subsidy has affected proprietary brands of bread which are not subsidised, but even there I think the increase is less than the hon. Member suggests.
