HC Deb 27 April 1953 vol 514 c87W
17. Captain Pilkington

asked the Attorney-General what prospect there is of hastening the hearing of the 1,500 civil cases awaiting trial in London.

The Attorney-General

Everything possible is being done to reduce the interval between setting down a case for trial and the hearing, which is at present about nine months. But I cannot hold out any hope of a substantial improvement while the pressure of work, particularly at assizes, remains as heavy as it is now.
