HL Deb 23 April 1953 vol 181 c1220WA
LORD METHUEN

asked Her Majesty's Government if Mapledurham House (Oxon), which is of considerable historical interest, has been listed under the 1947 Town and Country Planning Act; if a Preservation Order has been issued in respect of it; and what is the present condition of the fabric and interior decorations; if it is still empty and deteriorating.

LORD MANCROFT

Mapledurham House has been listed under Section 30 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1947; no building preservation order has been made in respect of it. The house is an interesting example of an Elizabethan family mansion, with nineteenth century modifications. A recent inspection, arranged through the courtesy of the owner, showed the structural condition to be sound and the original internal plaster-work and panelling to be in excellent condition. It is not at present occupied as a dwelling house but it is looked after by a caretaker. The only part of the structure which appears to be deteriorating is a chapel which was added in the nineteenth century.

House adjourned at twenty-five minutes past seven o'clock.
