HC Deb 23 April 1953 vol 514 cc81-2W
Mr. N. Macpherson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what arrangements have been made by Malta with other members of the Commonwealth, including the United Kingdom, in connection with the four-year migration scheme; and what proportion of the cost Her Majesty's Government is defraying.

Mr. Lyttelton

I am asking the Deputy Governor to inquire from the Government of Malta about arrangements with other members of the Commonwealth. As regards arrangements with the United Kingdom, I am still awaiting proposals from the Government of Malta for a four-year programme of emigration: two- thirds of the cost of this programme, up to £200,000 in any one year, will be borne by Her Majesty's Government when the scheme is agreed.
