Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury to set out in tabular form the division between depreciation and initial allowances, current provision for maintenance and repair of buildings for a few pre-war years and several post-war years including the latest figures.

Figures showing the provision for depreciation for the years 1948–52 are given on page 11 of "Preliminary Estimates of National Income and Expenditure 1948 to 1952" (Cmd. 8803). The limitations of these figures are described on pages 85 and 86 of "National Income and Expenditure 1946–1951." Comparable figures for 1938, when however there were no initial allowances, are:
