HC Deb 21 April 1953 vol 514 cc44-5W
56. Mr. Hartley

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware of the nuisance and danger to public health arising from the tipping of refuse from the Glebe Colliery, Washington, County Durham; and what action he is taking to deal with the problem.

Mr. Marples

My right hon. Friend understands that a spoilbank at this colliery caught fire recently. His inspector has visited it, and agreed with the National Coal Board and the urban district council suitable measures to bring the fire under control.
