HC Deb 17 April 1953 vol 514 c31W
Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Health which bodies have made recommendations to him under Section 20 (2) of the National Health Service Act, 1946, as a result of the service upon them of the Kent County Council's proposals in regard to the day nursery service.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The County Council gave statutory notification in February, 1952, to 60 bodies of their proposal to close the day nurseries. Eleven of these bodies made representations. I felt unable to approve the proposal at that time in the absence of other arrangements for the avoidance of hardship. In February, 1953, the Council gave similar notification of their proposal to introduce a scheme of registered daily minders, and various recommendations have been made to me by Beckenham, Bromley and Dartford Borough Councils and by Sevenoaks Urban District Council.
