HC Deb 02 April 1953 vol 513 cc166-7W
21. Mr. Bence

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total value of post-war credits repaid in 1951 and 1952, respectively.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

£16,304,455 in 1951 and £16,418,070 in 1952.

22. Mr. Bence

asked the Chancellor ofthe Exchequer what would be the estimated annual payment of post-war credits if the age at which the repayment is made were reduced from 65 to 60 years and from 65 to 55 years, respectively.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The normal annual repayment, which is at present about £16 million a year would be increased to about £17 million if the age were reduced to 60 or £18 million if the age were reduced to 55. In addition there would be a further large repayment in the year in which the change was made, amounting to about £84 million for a reduction to age 60 or £172 million for a reduction to age 55.

23. Mr. Bence

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number of holders of post-war credits.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

About 10½ million.
