HC Deb 02 April 1953 vol 513 c188W
Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Civil Aviation his reasons for preferring the Waterloo Station site to that at Charing Cross Station as a helidrome on stilts.

Mr. Profumo

Until we have had operational experience with twin-engined helicopters it would be premature to express a decided preference for one railway station site over another for possible use as an airstop. The Charing Cross Station site, however, has certain disadvantages. For example it is narrow, so that to construct an airstop over it would involve encroaching on open space on each side of the railway bridge.
