HC Deb 02 April 1953 vol 513 c167W
Mr. Harold Davies

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the value of our investments in Canada; and what proportion of the investments are in the Canadian oil industry.

Mr. Maudling

The latest available estimate is that published by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics in "The Canadian Balance of International Payments, 1951, and Foreign Capital Invested in Canada." This gives a tentative figure of 1,772 million Canadian dollars for total United Kingdom investments in Canada at the end of 1951. No such estimate of investment in the Canadian oil industry is available.
