§ 88. Sir W. Darlingasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the function of the special inquiries of the Treasury (A3) Department; and for what reason the costs of this Department have increased from £23,350 to £45,000.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe provision for special inquiries covers the expenses of special missions sent overseas under the leadership of Treasury Ministers, including the First Lord, the expenses of any committee set up by these Ministers and any other Treasury special inquiries. The estimate provided for the possibility of an increased number of special missions abroad which has not, in fact, occurred. Expenditure out of this provision to date is some £1,370.
