108. Mr. J. T. Priceasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider the feasibility of co-operating with the National Coal Board and the Iron and Steel Corporation in the removal of unsightly spoil dumps in mining and steel areas, by making available suitable prison labour where no alternative labour is available.
§ Sir H. Lucas-ToothMy right hon. and learned Friend would be glad to do what he can to help in this, but he understands that the main consideration in deciding the scale on which work of this kind can proceed is not so much the availability of labour as the diversion of financial and other resources from more urgent productive work.
