§ Mr. Goughasked the Minister of Works if he is satisfied with the lighting arrangements in Westminster Hall; and, in view of the fact that diffused lighting would bring out the beauties of this ancient monument, and would do much to foster interest in one of the most historic buildings in this country, if he will install lighting of this type.
§ Mr. MolsonThere are at present two systems for lighting Westminster Hall. Pendant lights are used for the ordinary lighting of the Hall. Special floodlights are also installed for the purpose of illuminating the roof. They will be switched on by the control engineer at the request of any hon. Member.
Before the present fittings were installed by a firm specialising in this work, much thought was given and experiments were made in order to obtain the results suggested by my hon. Friend. I think that the present floodlighting has given general satisfaction.
