HC Deb 21 October 1952 vol 505 cc81-2W
58. Mr. Gough

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what representations he has received from the Crawley Development Corporation concerning the proposal for the extension of Gatwick Airport.

Mr. H. Macmillan

The Corporation have made clear to me their view that from the standpoint of the development of the new town this proposal has considerable disadvantages as well as possible advantages. Their views will be considered by my right hon. Friend along with those which he has arranged to receive from the local authorities concerned with the project.

59. Mr. Gough

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware that there is concern among the new industrial population of Crawley about the proposal to extend Gatwick Airport; and whether he will meet a deputation from the Crawley Industrial Group.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I understand that this group of industrialists have submitted their views to my right hon. Friend the Minister of Civil Aviation and that he has advised them that at this stage they should make their representations to the local planning authority whose observations he has arranged to receive. In these circumstances, it would be inappropriate for me to receive a deputation at the present time.
