§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterOn 1st April, 1952, the total was 743 in the Home Departments and 1,430 in the Overseas32W Departments. These figures, which will be reduced in the course of the present financial year, include staff locally engaged overseas and clerical and typing staff, but not other ancillary staff such as messengers. The Central Office of Information is not included. Approximate comparative figures for 1938–39 were 300 staff in the Home Departments and 20 in the Overseas Departments.
