Reidasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he has considered the official request of the Prime Minister of the Gold Coast, on 25th May, to European civilian public servants there to 200W remain till the Gold Coast has an all-African service; and what is his policy concerning the future employment of civilian Britons in the Gold Coast.
§ Mr. HopkinsonI have not yet received a copy of the Gold Coast Prime Minister's statement to which the hon. Member refers. As regards the second part of the Question, my right hon. Friend and the Gold Coast Government are agreed that overseas civil servants will be needed in the Gold Coast for some time to come, and that fair and reasonable conditions of service must be ensured for them.
