§ 98. Mr. Swinglerasked the Minister of Works if he is aware of the numerous applications for licences for repairs to properties damaged by mining subsidence in Newcastle-under-Lyme, and of the hardship caused by including the value of these licences in the council's financial quota for repairs; and if he will give instructions that these applications should be dealt with separately.
§ Mr. EcclesThe special needs of local authorities in whose areas mining subsidence is prevalent are well understood. My present information is that the arrangements in the Newcastle-under-Lyme area are satisfactory.
§ 100. Mr. Harold Daviesasked the Minister of Works if he will give preferential treatment to local authorities in areas affected by mining subsidence when fixing the financial quotas for property repairs.
§ Mr. EcclesPreferential treatment in the way suggested is already given to local authorities in whose areas mining subsidence is prevalent.
