§ 35. Mr. Cooper-Keyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is now in a position to make a statement on the result of the discussions with local authorities regarding the supervision of school crossings, concerning which representations have been made by the borough of Hastings.

Maxwell FyfeI am examining in consultation with the Secretary of State for Scotland, the necessary steps, including legislation, required to give effect to the proposed new arrangements, mentioned by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport on 19th May in a reply to the hon. 65W Member for Colchester (Mr. Alport) for recruiting, training and organising school crossing patrols, and for the present I hope that any existing local arrangements for maintaining such patrols will be continued. I have not been able to trace the receipt of any representations from the brough of Hastings on the subject.
