§ 72. Mr. G. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what alterations have been made in the payment of overtime to the London Metropolitan Police Force.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeThe Police Regulations provide that compensation for overtime is to take the form of time off but that, if time off cannot be granted within three months or such shorter period as the Chief officer of Police may fix, overtime payments may be made to those entitled to them. Since 1946 it has been the practice in the Metropolitan Police to make immediate payments but the Commissioner of Police has decided to revert to the normal system and to make it the normal rule to give time off rather than a monetary payment.
