asked the Minister of Food if he will give details of food and feedingstuffs of which his Department is the sole purchaser and if he will say which purchases are from overseas and which from home.

The following list shows the main groups of foods and feedingstuffs which are procured from home and overseas sources by my Department as sole purchaser. Most of these groups also include some individual items which are not purchased by the Ministry.Main groups of commodities purchased by the Ministry of Food as sole purchaser

  • *Imported cereals.
  • *Rice.
  • Sugar.
  • Carcase meat and offal.
  • *Canned corned meat.
  • Bacon.
  • Milk.
  • Milk products.
  • Eggs and egg products.
  • Oilseeds, oils and fats.
  • *Coffee.
  • *Dried fruit (excluding figs and dates).
  • *Canned peaches, pears, apricots, grapefruit, pineapples and mandarin oranges, and mixtures containing one or more of these kinds.
  • Starch.
  • Animal feedingstuffs.
  • *Canned salmon, crab, sardines, sild, pilchards and herrings.
  • Bananas.
  • *Welfare orange juice.
The Ministry purchases of the items starred are confined to imports.
