HC Deb 13 March 1952 vol 497 cc147-8W
70. Mr. M. Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons have been licensed as taxicab drivers in the Metropolitan area in the last 12 months; and what facilities for their training were provided at the public expense.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The number of persons licensed for the first time during 1951 was 506. I am informed by my right hon. and learned Friend the Minister of Labour that training facilities at public expense under the Government Vocational Training Scheme are provided for disabled ex-Service men and for ex-Regulars. During the past 12 months, 120 men have been trained and placed in employment and 44 men are now in training under the scheme.
