§ Mr. Higgsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that there are a number of British subjects in China who wish to leave that country, but who have not so far been 61W granted permits to do so although they have fulfilled, or are willing to fulfil, all the requirements of the Chinese authorities; and whether he will take action to assist these British subjects.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydI am aware of this problem, but the situation has lately improved. British subjects who apply for exist permits now generally obtain them. Delays do, however, still occur, and Her Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Peking has made representations to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in such cases
