HC Deb 04 March 1952 vol 497 c31W
Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that over £13,000,000 was spent last year on overtime working by the Civil Service and a large amount on work done by agency typists, he will suspend dismissals of civil servants until their work can be covered in normal working hours by full-time staff.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I regret that I do not consider that the present working hours of the Civil Service should be reduced.
