HC Deb 04 March 1952 vol 497 cc38-9W
Mr. Blenkinsop

asked the Minister of Labour what action he is taking to prevent unemployment arising out of the severe reduction of steel supplies allocated to Tyneside shipyards.

Sir W. Monckton

To meet a situation of this kind the employment exchange endeavours to secure as early notice as possible of any impending redundancies, with a view to placing workers in other suitable employment as early as possible, thus avoiding or minimising any resulting unemployment.
