HC Deb 03 March 1952 vol 497 c6W
70. Mr. Shepherd

asked the hon. Member for Salisbury, as representing the Charity Commissioners, the amount of money under the control of the Charity Commissioners which, for various reasons, is no longer usable for the charitable purposes originally intended, and for which no alternative scheme has been approved.

Mr. J. Morrison

At any one time there is inevitably some income awaiting allocation from charitable funds which can no longer be used for the purposes originally intended. It is the duty of the trustees of the charity concerned to bring this to the notice of the Charity Commissioners.

Schemes directing alternative ways of applying income in accordance with the cy près doctrine are made whenever such cases come to the Commissioners' notice.
