§ 81. Mr. Russellasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will consult with the Governments of British territories in East and Central Africa, with a view to expanding the growth of maize, so as to provide a larger quantity for local consumption and a surplus for export.
§ Mr. LytteltonSmall surpluses of maize have been available for export in the East and Central African territories in recent years, and special measures have been taken in these territories to increase production. As my right hon. Friend explained on 11th June, any large expansion could only be at the expense of other crops.
