HC Deb 10 June 1952 vol 502 cc2-3W
40. Mrs. Mann

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how far the policy of full employment is pursued by Her Majesty's Ministers and what steps are taken to give effect to this policy.

Mr. R. A. Butler

It is not possible to deal adequately with the many aspects of full employment in our present economic circumstances within the limits of a Parliamentary Question and reply.

I made it clear in my Budget Speech that we, and indeed we all, aim at a high and stable level of employment, and that a healthy balance of payments is for our country the essential safeguard in the long term of the attainment of this objective. It will be the primary object of the Government's economic policy to restore and maintain such a healthy balance.
