HC Deb 31 July 1952 vol 504 c188W
Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress is being made in the setting up of wage councils in Singapore and Malaya; and in what industries they will be established.

Mr. Hopkinson,

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 2nd July, 1952; Vol. 503, c. 40] supplied the following further information: The Government of the Federation of Malaya have not yet introduced a statutory wages council for any industry. In Singapore the Wages Councils Bill has passed its second reading and is now before a Select Committee. It is not yet possible to name the industries in which wages councils will be established.
